Everything You Need to Know
Cerakote can be applied to a surprisingly wide range of substrates and manufactured components.
We regularly work with aluminium, steel, stainless steel and other metals, including machined components, castings, metal injection moulded (MIM) parts and additively manufactured / 3D-printed metal components.
But we don’t believe in simply saying “yes, Cerakote will stick to that.”
The substrate, how the component has been manufactured, its condition, operating environment and what you need the coating to achieve can all influence how it should be prepared and which coating system we would recommend.
That’s where our experience becomes important.
If you’re developing a product or have a component you’re unsure about, get in touch. Send us a photo, drawing, specification or sample and we’ll happily discuss it with you, advise on preparation and coating options, and if necessary carry out initial samples or trials before moving into production.
Our job isn’t simply to apply Cerakote. It’s to help you establish the right finishing process for your component.
We won’t recommend Cerakote simply because that’s what we sell.
PB has experience across multiple surface-finishing processes, so our starting point is always the component and what you’re trying to achieve.
We look at the substrate, operating environment, temperature, corrosion requirements, appearance, tolerances, quantities and other relevant factors before recommending a coating system.
Sometimes Cerakote is absolutely the right solution. Sometimes another finishing process may be more appropriate — and we’ll tell you that.
Our reputation is more important to us than putting Cerakote on something that isn’t suited to it.
Cerakote is only as good as the preparation and application behind it. We operate from a dedicated Cerakote facility with two certified, factory-trained applicators and an experienced team behind every project. Preparation, masking, application, film thickness, curing and quality control are all taken seriously.
Absolutely. That’s a big part of what we do. Tell us about the component, its environment and what you’re trying to achieve. For specialist applications and problem solving, Phill is our go-to expert and can advise on the preparation, coating system and properties required.
There are a huge number of Cerakote colours and finishes available, but colour is only part of the decision. Different coating systems offer different properties depending on the application. We can help you find the right balance of appearance, performance and protection rather than simply picking a colour from a chart.
Yes. We can take a project from initial discussions, samples and process development through to repeat production. Once approved, we can establish preparation, masking, application and quality requirements around your particular component to help achieve consistency from batch to batch.
It certainly can. A prototype or first-off price isn’t necessarily representative of the eventual production cost. Once quantities increase, we can optimise batch sizes, handling, masking, application and curing, which can significantly reduce the cost per component.
Yes. For repeat work we can develop dedicated masking aids, plugs, fixtures, hanging solutions and jigs specifically around your component. This can improve consistency and production efficiency while reducing labour and ultimately helping reduce the cost per part.
Yes. We regularly work through samples and trials before committing to production. We’d rather establish the correct preparation, coating and application process at the beginning and make sure everyone is happy before progressing to larger quantities.
Keep it simple. Send us a photograph, drawing, specification or sample and tell us what you’re trying to achieve. Our team will discuss it with you, ask the right questions and advise on the next step. You don’t need to understand coatings before contacting us — that’s what we’re here for.
The Finish Speaks. Our Clients Agree.
